All About FiOS Promotion Codes

Getting the best deal is always important, even for entertainment services such as Verizon's FiOS network. Unfortunately, many consumers do not know enough about shopping to ensure that they are not wasting money. One of the best ways to save money month after month is to look for a promo code, such as a Verizon FiOS promotion code. A FiOS promo code is essentially a coupon that one can use to receive a great deal on Verizon FiOS services and/or related products.

Just like a regular coupon, a Verizon FiOS promotion code may come with different stipulations or restrictions. Some FiOS promo codes will be useful only for certain services, while others are good for virtually anything above a certain amount. Experienced penny pinchers should already be good at spotting the stipulations and understanding the ramifications, but for those who are just now learning the virtue of frugality, a short primer is in order.

VERIZON

The first thing to know is that almost all FiOS promotion codes come with time limits, just like coupons. Just like coupons, promo codes can only be used until its expiration date, even if that date is not readily apparent. The two primary reasons why companies offer promotion codes are to evaluate affiliates/marketing partners and to generate quick revenue returns in order to hit internal financial targets. Both of these goals are met by placing time limits on offers, but sometimes it is hard to discern just when a given deal expires. All good things must come to an end sometime, and great deals on blazing fast fiber-powered broadband/IPTV/digital phone services are no exception. The long and the short of the expiration issue is that if one can manage to find a FiOS promo code that they find attractive, they need to consider using it quickly or risking that promo code expiring without any notice.

Just like coupons, there may be terms and conditions that must be met when using any given Verizon FiOS promo code. For example, an offer might be limited to certain packages or offerings, or may simply require the inclusion of certain features such as a group of channels or digital telephone service. Other discounts are only good for services over and above a certain price point, and some will require a contract with a fixed duration. The good news is that the restrictions are usually simple to understand and easy to navigate, mostly because promotion codes are meant to entice immediate sign-ups.

Finding FiOS promo codes can be difficult, especially since Verizon often changes the deals it is offering. The best bet is to search the top FiOS-related sites and try to see which site or sites has the best FiOS promo code whenever the time to purchase comes around. Be on the lookout for sites a few months prior to making a purchase may be wise, as it lets consumers gauge which sites receive the latest and greatest FiOS promo codes. Old sites that feature outdated news and content may not have up-to-date promo codes, and few companies take outdated coupons/promo-codes for obvious reasons. Offers are only good so long as they serve the interest of both parties, and remember that expiration dates do not necessarily have to be explicitly mentioned to be effective.

FiOS promo codes are typically best used when ordering service online, and Verizon's website certainly makes short work of ordering packages. Better yet, shopping online instead of over the phone reduces the amount of pressure and lets one make the best possible purchasing decision. Whatever decision one makes, backing it up with a FiOS promo code is a sure way to save money. Once signed up with Verizon FiOS, look for the Spend Smart widget in the Widget Bazaar to save even more money on goods and services. Remember: A penny saved is a penny earned.

Why Gamers Love Verizon FiOS Internet

Verizon FiOS Internet service is a great service for serious gamers to use because it gives gamers the speed and power that they need in order to take on the toughest challenges in the games they love. Gamers need the best Internet service possible in order to get the most out of their games. Gamers that play MMORGs and other games that are very graphic heavy need a huge amount of bandwidth and speed in order to be able to participate in high action adventures.

Most of the time traditional cable Internet connections just aren't fast enough. Without an Internet connection like Verizon FiOS, your bandwidth might get swamped by all the graphics and popular Internet games people love to play. Games can become frustrating and hard to play if the internet connection is not solid, resulting in internet connection interruptions because the Internet service that they're using can't sustain a high speed connection.

VERIZON

Verizon FiOS is different from cable Internet because it uses powerful fiber optic cables that run directly to your home instead of relying on traditional cables that use the same technology as old landline phone systems. Can you imagine trying to play one of today's modern high intensity digital games or MMORG games on a dial up connection?

If you're using an Internet connection that relies on the old framework of traditional land line phones, like cable Internet service, then you might as well be trying to play on a dial up connection. Modern video games are designed to play on fact and reliable Internet connections like the Verizon FiOS high speed internet service. The fiber optic cable used by Verizon FiOS acts like a huge pipeline that can accommodate massive amounts of information and data which make it much easier and more fun to game.

Gamers that play MMORGs like World of Warcraft and participate in group events and raids have to have the kind of power and speed that Verizon FiOS Internet service provides in order to get to the top of the game. When your fellow gamers are depending on you, a dropped Internet connection can mean the difference between winning the battle or everyone on your team dying.

In MMORGs, high level raids and battles can have as many as 20 people or more per side that are all doing battle at once. That can cause a lot of confusion and a lot of congestion on the network servers. If you don't have a strong Internet connection that is going to keep you in the game, you could end up getting dropped at a crucial time which might end up making your team or guild lose the raid or the battle.

You can't get to the elite level and participate in group events unless you have the reliability and strength of the best Internet service out there, which experts agree is the Verizon FiOS Internet service. Pro gamers recommend using an ultra powerful Internet service like FiOS if you want to get to the pro level as a gamer.

Cheap Verizon Phones

Cheap Verizon phones are available online for you to compare. There are three ways to get a cheap Verizon phone is by getting a cell phone with a contract, getting a basic cheap phone or getting a slightly used phone. Each of the options has its benefits.

First way that you can get get a cheap Verizon phone is by signing a twelve or twenty four month contract. It is one of the most popular options and you get a great mobile for free. The downside is that if you decide to cancel your service, your credit is not that good or you want to change to a different provider. In that case you were not be able to cancel your service unless you pay a penalty, which is around 0. If your credit is not that great then Verizon might also require you to pay a deposit and that can get pricey also.

VERIZON

Our second option is to just buy a basic phone without all the bells and whistles. If you just need a cheap Verizon mobile then this is your options. Get a mobile for what it was designed to do is to make phone calls. Verizon offers great cheap phones from Nokia, Samsung and LG. They are all great phones and some allow you to browse the web, take pictures with build in camera, calendar and place to keep all of your contacts.

Last options you have is to buy a cell phone slightly used. This is my favorite option to get a Verizon phone. I know I got some great smart phones on eBay for the fraction on what they were worth. We both know of people who just must have the newest gadget and they constantly upgrade their mobile. Before you go out there and look at spending your money on cell phone take a check out eBay or even Craigslist. If you know where to look you can always find a cheap Verizon phone.

What Everyone Ought to Know About Verizon Androids

Verizon has an impressive range of Android phones, with thirteen available to you. The Verizon Androids that stand out are the Droid 2, the Droid Incredible 2 and the HTC Thunderbolt.

The Thunderbolt is leading the way for Verizon being the only Verizon Android to run on Verizon's 4G LTE network. The internet browsing speeds are impressive in comparison to the 3G network, however, this speed comes at a cost. The Thunderbolt flies through battery power while you surf at 4G speeds. Though if you are using the 3G network or not surfing the web you should get around eight hours of talk time, which is pretty good for any phone.

VERIZON

According to PCmag.com the Thunderbolt is the fastest phone to browse the web. The 4G network also allows you to talk and browse the web at the same time, which is a first as this was not possible on 3G. Physically this phone feels and looks good, however, is a little heavier than you might like at 6.4 ounces. This phone sports an impressive 8 megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3 mega pixel front facing VGA camera to do you video calling and self portraits with. There is the WiFi hotspot option to connect up to eight devices. This option will cost you an extra per month for 2 GB of data.

The ThunderBolt is not the only premier phone from Verizon that you should consider. The HTC Droid incredible 2 and Motorola Droid 2 are both impressive handsets that have similar specs to the ThunderBolt with the exception of 4G connectivity.

The Droid 2 is a great option for those of you that prefer the physical full QWERTY keyboard. This keyboard is an improvement of the original Droid with the keys being slightly raised making it easier to hit, however, some users feel that the keys are a little stiff. Physically the Droid 2 is a little thinner than its original counterpart at 0.54 inches thick. You can expect the Droid 2 to run a fair bit quicker than the original one as it has double the processor power (1 GHz) and 512 MB of RAM. In conjunction with this it ships with Android 2.2 (Froyo).

The Droid Incredible 2 by HTC is a great global phone, with a 8 megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video, 4 inch sharp screen (480 x 800 pixel Super LCD), 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 768 RAM and 1GB of internal memory (you can insert an microSD card to increase memory to 16GB).

Another phone from Verizon that is somewhat unique is the Casio G'zOne Commando. This military grade rugged phone is excellent if you are the outdoor type and might be jumping in the water by accident with your phone still in your pocket, might find yourself in extreme outdoor conditions. And yet still sports impressive specs.

It is clear that the ThunderBolt is Verizon's premier handset, with the Droid 2 and Droid Incredible 2 not far behind with the distinguishing feature being the lack of 4G in the later two phones. None of the above phones have received their taste of Gingerbread (Android 2.3 - the latest version to ship). There are unofficial versions for the brave who choice to custom ROM their phones.

Golf GPS Apps For Android

OK, so you have a fancy touchscreen Smartphone with the Android operating system (perhaps a Verizon Droid or even a brand new Nexus One from Google), and you want to spice it up with a compatible golf GPS. Maybe you're already familiar with GolfShot, GolfLogix, and some of the other popular golf GPS apps available for the iPhone and BlackBerry Smartphones, and now you're wondering what the choices are for Android. The number of apps in the Android market may be kind of puny compared to the huge number of apps available for the iPhone. But there are Android golf GPS apps available. The following list of five top-notch products is a start.

GolfCard was selected by both CNN and Time magazine as the best iPhone golf app for father's day (2009). Now it's available for Android phones; both Sprint and Verizon have recently featured GolfCard in their new phone ads. It looks promising, and should probably be more popular than it already is. This inexpensive rangefinder has a database of 28,000 courses, a scorecard for multiple players, statistical analysis, and no subscription fees.

VERIZON

GreenFinder, which is a popular GPS app that also works on Blackberry, iPhone, and Windows Mobile phones, can be downloaded and used five times for free. It gives you distances to the front, center, and back of the green, as well as distances to fairway hazards and the distance of your last shot. It costs less than a round of golf and there are no additional fees: you can download all the courses you need and you can even mark your own courses.

FreeCaddie also works on Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Java enabled phones. The free version displays only the distances to the front, center, and back of greens. If you want the really good stuff like distances to bunkers and hazards, a shot distance function, the ability to map your own points, or statistics and scorekeeping, then you need to upgrade to FreeCaddie Pro.

Pocket Caddy from Satsports has 3D flyovers of the entire course and individual holes, distances to the front, center, and back of the green and other points of interest. It also has shot recording, statistical analysis and and a scorecard. With Pocket Caddy you can get a map of your home course included with purchase, or you can easily map courses yourself using Google Earth.

SkyDroid (which is practically free) has distances to the front, center and back of every green on the course, as well as distances to water hazards, bunkers, and other course features. It also has a satellite map view of every hole. You can track the distance of your last shot, download all the courses you want for no extra cost, and you can even use SkyDroid's Course Mapper to easily map your own courses.

Blackberry Storm 2, 9550 Verizon

The Blackberry Storm 2 is delivering on some of the original Storm's expectations. It's a very powerful device with an inventive screen click. The Storm 9550 has mediocre web browser and underpowered camera. It's a tough decision, but I would have to say this is a do not buy on the list of Smartphones, especially with the plethora of choices in the market at the moment. I had a Storm 9530 previously and after 50% of the buttons fell off in the first month, I exchanged it for a less buggy phone. It's obvious that a first generation of a model should be buggy, but for the price, you might as well ante up the extra and go for the Droid or HTC.

The storm 2 feels sleeker and more polished. Its heavier then the HTC Imagio, and has no mobile TV tuner or kickstand. Touch keys on the top are a few of the only buttons on the unit. The storm 2 is mostly black, and has shortcut and volume buttons rubberized for texture and feel, for easy pressing. There is a brushed aluminum back panel that just feels durable and stylish.

VERIZON

The bottom front panel buttons are now built into the screen, and are touch sensitive. Going from an old storm to a new storm, typing was more fluent and with less errors, or mistypes of keys. Double taping zooms, but tends to be touchy and not natural and leaves artifacts on the screen that clear up once loaded the new screen.

The storm 2 is a world phone, with dual-band EV-DO and Quad-band EDGE, and single-band HSDPA, it will work here or overseas. Finally included in storm 2 is Wi-fi, which was not included in the previous storm. The storm 2's edge mounted speaker phone is very loud and clear. As stated above web-browsing is not the storm's high point. Also the storm 2 lacks, flash, two finger pinch zoom, and scrolling on web pages feel rough and bottom icons are finicky.

Messaging is very good on the Storm 2. It takes up to 10 email accounts, and pushes emails. Text messages are now threaded like an iPhone or Droid, and color coded in a he said she said, color coordination for you and recipient. As always RIM, preloads blackberry messenger, which is a tool in its own, but also puts links to download Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and AIM, and even Google Talk. This can entertain anyone's needs for chat.

A GPS radio works with VZ Navigator but at an extra cost of .99 per month extra cost, vs. the Droid's free turn by turn directions with Google maps. The Storm 2 includes 2GB of onboard memory and a 16GB SanDisk microSD card, that goes underneath the battery cover.

The Storm 2's camera is a 3.2MP but all you get is black without proper lighting, very dark on most pictures. Storm 2 has a proper 3.5mm headphone jack to plug-in headphones directly. Standalone video playing with amazing, but died on HD playback, but has support for 3GP and 4Gp which played fine. The large vibrant screen looked amazing and is running a slightly updated version OS 5.0 from previous version, on the same 528 MHz processor; you can also buy some third party applications, with over 2000 choices in the catalog. Photos support getagging with flickr, but shutter speed was over a second for photos, and video is just as dark without proper lighting.

In short if you're doubtful on the touch screen, or shrewdly updated model from its predecessor, I would go with the HTC Imagio or Motorola Android.

Verizon Unlisted Cell Phone Number Lookup

If you come across an unlisted Verizon number, it can be very frustrating because you are just dying to find out more information about it. We have all been in this situation before and it seems to be impossible to find any results. You try to search it in the Yellow Pages or the phone book and you see zero results. You try to search the search engines, and there is noting.

When you think you have tried everything, there is one easy solution that you probably have not used yet. It is called a reverse phone lookup and it is one of the best tools that people use on a daily basis.

VERIZON

How it works?

It is very simple to use and all you need is a cell number. Just type in the number in the appropriate boxes and wait for the results. Once you have found the information, you will just need to register. Once registered, all the information you will ever need will be there. This will be a name, address, additional cell numbers, companies, criminal records, etc.

Although this is very easy to use, it is unfortunately not free. Just like any directory, you need to pay a little bit of money to see all the results. A typical directory such as this ranges from anywhere from for one record, or up to for unlimited searches for a year. This is a reasonable price for the information that you receive.

So take the time to find a reliable reverse phone lookup, and you will be on your way to finding the information you need.

T1 Connection - Speed and Reliability Guaranteed

There is a wide range of choice for the internet and telephone services that you connect to. Some services are suited to regular home users with smaller budgets. Though these services may provide high-speed, they are lacking the reliability that a business would require. For business users, the T1 connection is more ideally suited.

There are some features which are shared with normal DSL connections, such as high-speed data connection. But it is the unique features that make T1 suited to business.

VERIZON

A home connection is normally asynchronous. The download speed will be high, with the assumption that downloads will be used more than uploads, with the upload speed up to two-thirds slower. For a business, where sending large volumes of emails or conducting voice conferences for instance is important, having limited uploads is undesirable - so a T1 provides a synchronous connection instead. Here the upload and download speeds are the same.

Reliability is the most important feature of a T1 connection. A true T1 is a dedicated connection, meaning that it is only yours - you do not share it with anyone. This means that there is no slow down when too many people come online - performance will be consistent.

An SLA (Service Level Agreement) is also standard. This is a contractual agreement with the service provider that they will guarantee an agreed upon level of service. This may include a maximum amount of downtime over the year, or the speed at which they promise to fix faults that occur. In contrast, a home or ordinary DSL connection is unlikely to have such an agreement, which leaves the users at the mercy of the service provider, who may be slow to fix faults.

A T1 will cost more, but the lack of downtime is likely to provide massive savings in productivity over the course of a contract.

iPhone Vs Android

AT&T has the iPhone and until just recently the smart phone Goliath was king of the castle. Back in late October, Verizon Wireless unleashed the Motorola Droid, a device that runs on the android platform. Another Android phone gaining a great deal of hype is the Nexus One by Google. Apple actually went after Google with a patent lawsuit. It's no secret that Apple's Steve Jobs and Google CEO Eric Schmidt aren't very fond of one another. The Google CEO was asked to step down from the Apple Board and an Anti-trust investigation was started. Schmidt said he wanted to "Kill the iPhone" and Jobs to offense to that saying something along the lines of,

"We didn't enter the search game, they entered the phone game so they clearly want to kill the iPhone."

VERIZON

So the war of words had begun. The Google Nexus One is already available on the T-Mobile and AT&T networks and will be available for the Verizon network in the second quarter of 2010. With Apple being the first player in the touch screen mobile device arena there hasn't been a worthy adversary until now.

The new Android platform is growing by leaping and bounds everyday and many mobile app developers are creating iPhone apps but also latching on to the android platform. One of the drawbacks to the Android platform early on was that the Apple App Store dwarfed that of Android but over the recent months more and more Android apps are becoming available and Android is actually taking a decent portion of the market back from Apple.

Here are some comparisons between the technologies.

Android:

Operating system: Android OS that uses a modified version of Linux kernel. Originally developed by Android, Inc. and recently purchased by Google; Allows developers to write managed code in Java.; Allows users to multi-task.

Phones available on the Android platform: Motorola droid, HTC Nexus One, HTC Eris, HTC Hero,HTC Tattoo, MyTouch 3G, LG Eve just to name a few.

iPhone:

Operating system: iPhone OS-Derived from the Mac OS X, shares the Darwin foundation. The OS has four abstraction layers, the core OS layer, the core services layer, the media layer and the cocoa touch layer. The OS uses less than500 MB of the device's memory. Unable to multi-task.

Phones available on the iPhone platform: Apple iPhone

From just looking at these stats, I think the Android Platform is going to be the next big thing with smart phones. The iPhone just seems so locked up and controlled. I know you can "jailbreak" the iPhone but who wants to do that to their device? I really like the Nexus One, it has a sleek design and has the ability to multi-task. I know the apps aren't to level of the iPhone just yet, but give them time and I'm sure they will be more than worthy in a year or so.

Verizon's Blackberry Curve vs Sprint's BB Curve

The battle of the smart data mobile phones has never been tougher, especially when two different phone companies share internet-ready mobile phones which are made by the same manufacturer but have different styles, this is the case of Verizon's Blackberry Curve vs the Sprint Blackberry Curve version.

If you have ever had the chance of comparing these two devices side by side you will notice that they are physically similar, however there are some key differences, Verizon's version sports a gray finish and Sprint's uses a sleek black finish which seems to appeal to most people. This type of phones attract customers who are used to checking their email messages, their stock quotes and favorite sites on a daily basis, users who do not access the web and email applications that much would be better off with another mobile phone model.

VERIZON

The first thing you notice about these devices is how different they look, with the Sprint version sporting a darker titanium finish and the Verizon version going with the more conservative liquid-silver aesthetic.

The Blackberry Curve sold by Sprint sports a darker titanium finish and Verizon's version uses a conservative liquid silver look, recent polls and blog feedback have shown that people seem to prefer the Sprint version when it comes to looks. The way the icons are arranged when a user turns on the device is also a difference between the two and again Sprint's version comes on top. Verizon's icon arrangement is more traditional, Sprint's icons seem to be more animated and placed vertically on the left hand side of the screen.

The backgrounds and images can be customized on both so if you decide to go with Verizon you won't be stuck with just one default background or animation type, however Sprint's version of the Blackberry Curve seem to aim a younger audience who are attracted to neat graphics and style.

A major improvement seen in the Blackberry Curve (for both carriers) is that there are two new applications installed which allow users to record video as well as audio notes to its memory or to the removable microSD card. Both models are GPS ready and have EV-DO connectivity along with a 3.5mm audio jack. The web browser font size has also been modified for easy to read messages.

As always the one with the last word is the consumer, who must decide between stylish looks and the benefits of the network they are signing up for, besides the service is all a matter of tastes and personal preferences.

Verizon Reverse Phone Number Look-up - How to Perform a Verizon Reverse Phone Search

Why do you want a reverse phone search? Is there an annoying caller who calls over and over again? Are you scared that the person calling you may have a criminal record? Are you afraid that your significant other may be cheating on you and want to track the phone numbers to prove it?

There could be countless reasons why you are trying to find out who's calling, but you have to make sure that you have the correct technology in order to find out who's calling your phone unwanted.

VERIZON

What is the Reverse Look-up Service

The reverse look-up service is one that allows you to type in the number of the person who is calling your phone and allow you the opportunity to find out information such as their name, address, map to their house ,and even a criminal record if they have it.

So the question remains? Why aren't more Verizon users using this? There are actually reverse phone number databases that track the number of mobile phones - although you have to pay for this because it's so hard to update - it is in fact possible to find out who's calling; whether from a landline or mobile.

You can get all the information, because a reverse phone search is like the white pages except instead of putting in the name of the person you are looking for - you simply place in the number of the person who called and receive information!

It's certainly an incredible tool that works like a charm!

Who's Got the Fastest Mobile Broadband? Sprint, Verizon and AT&T Speed Tests

So you open up your browser and hop over to Google. You type in something like:

"Who has the fastest mobile broadband?"

VERIZON

3 sites that look very familiar pop up saying stuff like:

"BroadbandAccess Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) network from Verizon Wireless has been enhanced with EV-DO Rev. A to deliver even faster data speeds and greater efficiencies. Fast downloads - typical speeds of 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps. Fast uploads - typical speeds of 500-800 Kbps."

"With a Sprint Mobile Broadband Card, you get average download speeds of 600-1400 Kbps, peaking at 3.1 Mbps, and 350-500 Kbps average upload speeds, peaking at 1.8 Mbps. Similar to DSL, and about ten times faster than using a dial-up modem"

" AT&T offers the broadband speed and responsiveness of BroadbandConnect...the latest 3G devices provide typical download throughput of 700 kbps to 1.7 Mbps for downloads and 500 kbps to 1.2 Mbps for upload"

Ugh.

Just give it to me straight Doc. Speak English. How in the world is someone supposed to figure out who's the fastest with this 'can't sue me' lawyer-speak?

All the ranges seem to overlap. Even looking at the maximum speeds, Verizon and Sprint look identical...until, that is, you realize they are only theoretical. A best case scenario that's not too optimistic.

It's just like your speedometer's range that goes from 0 mph to 120 mph. Just because 120 mph is on your dashboard doesn't mean your rusty 16 year old Honda Civic Hatchback with the flashing engine check light is gonna make it.

The companies also know you can't call them on it because 'there are too many variables'. What were the road conditions like? How fast were you going? When last have you had a tune-up? What was the weather like? Do you know how many cell phone towers were in the area? How many satellites were positioned around you at the time? Or my personal favorite 'You were most likely roaming and we have no control over other networks'.

It's like trying to get fresh organic vegetables at McDonald's. It's just not gonna happen.

It just is what it is my friend.

The only way down to the nitty gritty and feast on the raw truth is to get out into the wild. Outside of my own testing, I draw on the experiences of others from ComputerWorld, Gizmodo and jkOnTheRun. I'll give you a quick chronological recap of what happened with each:

ComputerWorld - Which 3G Network Is The Best? - 05/13/08

Location:

New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

Broadband Cards:

(AT&T) Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881, (Sprint) Novatel Wireless Ovation U727 and (Verizon) Sierra Wireless USB AirCard 595U

Result: AT&T had the highest maximum speed (1.6 Mbps), average download speed (755 Kbps) and upload speed (484 Kbps)

Gizmodo - The Definitive Coast-to-Coast 3G Data Test - 12/17/08

Location:

Austin, Boston, Chicago, New York City, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, San Francisco and the Bay Area

Broadband Cards:

AT&T's Sierra USBConnect 881, Sprint's Sierra Wireless Compass 597 and Verizon Wireless's Novatel USB727

Results: Sprint had the highest national average download speed (1.4 Mbps) while AT&T (640 kbps) had the highest average upload speed

jkOnTheRun - 3G SpeedTest: EV-DO vs. HSDPA in Phoenix - 12/27/08

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Broadband Cards: Verizon Wireless USB727, AT&T USB Quicksilver

Results: Verizon had the highest download speed (2.1 Mbps) and upload speed (744 Kbps)

So here we've got 3 different tests all showing someone else as the winner. It's hardly surprising. Mobile broadband speeds do vary from place to place. The only way to get a clear winner is to test in multiple locations, take a couple averages and then see who comes out on top.

Since Gizmodo's test was the most comprehensive, it's fair to say its also the most reliable. Sprint is kicking butt in the mobile broadband game. Even if you only compare the tests Gizmodo performed in New York City alongside the tests ComputerWorld ran in NYC, Sprint still beats AT&T in download and upload speed.

Sprint is clearly the winner overall and provides serious competition in every location. If put together the fact that they're the fastest, largest mobile broadband network, you've got a double whammy.

It's no wonder that Andy Abramson of Working Anywhere recommends Sprint. He spends about 0 per month testing mobile broadband and wireless internet related services. Seems like he might know a thing or two.

To beat a dead horse even further...

I've personally tested it over 1001 miles of highway at 70 miles per hour (New Orleans to Jacksonville and Tampa to Atlanta). I had my connection get dropped once...for 15 minutes total. That's solid.

Now before we all start bowing down to the awesome network that is Sprint, ComputerWorld points out some things you should know:

"Using this technology can be a bit like being on a roller coaster. I found that I could be screaming along at 1.1Mbit/sec. only to have speeds slow to a crawl at 20Kbit/sec. a moment later. That's because, as with all cellular service, speed and reliability depend on a variety of conditions, such as how far you are from a cell tower, how many other users are connected in your vicinity and how much data they're moving".

Verizon FiOS - Faster Internet For Less

If you watch television, and particularly if you have cable television, you probably see ads on a regular basis touting the "faster Internet" services from your cable provider. While cable Internet is certainly an improvement on other Internet access options, Verizon FiOS now offers faster connections than cable, for less money, with better quality and service. Not a hard choice for most people.

Verizon FiOS service offers the only Internet connections that travels over fiber-optic lines all the way to your computer. Cable providers boast fiber-optic networks, but don't advertise the fact that these networks extend only to the curb, not into your home. Verizon FiOS is the first Internet provider to take advantage of new technology which takes fiber-optic connections right into your home, all the way to your computer.

VERIZON

How fast is fast? For the technical-minded, Verizon FiOS speeds are up to 50 Mbps or 30 Mbps downstream and 20 or 5 Mbps upstream. For the non-technical-minded: very, very fast.

You might expect that a faster Internet connection would be much more expensive than cable Internet, but in fact, Verizon FiOS is cheaper than cable. With rates starting at .99, you'll pay less for Verizon's faster service than you currently pay for cable Internet.

Honestly, it doesn't matter how fast your Internet connection is if you can't connect. You pay for access, not outages, and you expect your Internet access to work when you need it. With Verizon FiOS, you get reliable access and friendly customer service from one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. If asked, most people would not give their cable company high marks for reliability or service; Verizon FiOS gives you the quality and customer support you need and deserve.

Installing a new Internet connection is probably the last way you want to spend your free time, right? With your one-year Verizon FiOS contract, you receive free installation. A professional Verizon installation technician will come to your home, install Verizon FiOS on your primary computer, connect you to the Internet, connect any voice services that are moving over to FiOS, and provide a welcome kit with all the information you need to make the most of your service. You'll keep your free time free, and know that your Verizon connection has been set up correctly.

Most people would willingly pay more for the enhanced speed and quality of Verizon FiOS, coupled with the excellent customer service of Verizon and the exclusive members-only content, including games, movie trailers and reviews, and music reviews and mixes. You no doubt agree that all of this is worth at least as much as you're currently paying for cable. After all, this is much more than you get from your current provider.

The good news is, you do not need to pay more for Verizon FiOS; in fact, you'll pay less. With packages starting at .99, Verizon FiOS is faster, better, and cheaper than cable or DSL. Now is the time to switch to Verizon FiOS and start getting more for less.
